NADI1

The Nadi Granthas

Nadi in Sanskrit means the pulse, the subtle channels in the body, a division of time (24 minutes). In Tamil, the language of Tamil Nadu, Nadi means in search of. To be in search of the past, the reason of existence, to search the roots and essence of the past. In Yoga and Ayurveda, Nadi are the subtle channels that give message to the different parts of the body plus the Ida, Pingala and Sushumna nadi. Grantha is a great book of knowledge.

Nadi Granthas or the great books of subtle knowledge, are recordings of the Sapta Rishi. Sapta means seven and Rishi means Sages. Brahma conceived the Seven Great Sages out of his mind to help in his creation of the world. They were Bhrigu, Angira, Atri, Vishvamitra, Kashyapa, Vashishta, and Agastya. They knew the key to creation and the destiny of each and every individual born and yet to be born. What is their purpose? Why they were born? What karma they bring into their life? These Granthas were not written as predictions but as records of life and information on secret knowledge. This knowledge was not restricted to astrology alone but to other subjects including Science, Ayurveda, Yoga, Spirituality, Alchemy, Occult and Jyotisha. Their thoughts and knowledge was passed down orally from one generation to another and then finally written down on palm leafs. They were originally in Sanskrit but they also got translated into Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam and other regional languages. A collection of palm leafs become one chapter within a Granthas. So a complete Grantha could be many thousands of palm leafs.

The Nadis are equivalent to books today. The only difference is that Nadis are only filled with profound knowledge and the keys to existence on all levels- practical, spiritual and subtle. The knowledge within these Nadis is pure and profound. The mind of the interpreter may not be able to grasp the great information that the Sages are trying to impart and therefore bring the reading down to a more material level.

Some are not complete due to the loss or destruction of the leaves. Each of rishis has a Grantha from which his knowledge is dispersed. These Granthas include Agastya nadi, Brighu nadi, Brahma nadi, Shiva nadi, Kaushika nadi ( Vishwamitra) etc. The nadi reader traditionally follows the writings on just one of the great rishis

The records were kept in many libraries in ancient India. For centuries few realized the importance of these records and the nadi manuscripts were left to rot. Under the patronage of the Chola Dynasty that ruled South India from 10th to 13th Century AD, the leafs were classified and kept in the library of Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Other kings around India also helped in the preservation of these Nadi granthas as well.

Many of these leafs were destroyed by the invading armies of the Mughals and the British. While the Mughals asked them to be burnt, British took numerous Nadi back to Britain but they sold most connected to astrology. Valluvar community from Vaitheeswaran Koil in Tamil Nadu chiefly bought there. This is why most of the Nadis today are connected to astrology.

Each Nadi in Tamil Nadu is made up of ola or palm leaf, written in Vatta ezhuthu, a Tamil script, with a sharp, pen like instrument called ezhuthani. Rubbing peacock oil on auspicious occasions preserves the palm leaves. Peacock is also the vehicle for Murughun (Mars). So the subtle hint is that the great Lord Murughun helps preserve and protect this ancient knowledge. This is why there are so many Nadi readers outside one of Mars’s main places of power in Vaitheeswaran Koil.

There are other centre of Nadis. In Hoshiarpur, Punjab, a family og Bhrigu nadi readers are found.

Vaitheeswaran Koil, the Primary Centre for Nadi

There are many centres of Nadi in India. The main one remains in Vaitheeswaran Koil in Tamil Nadu. Due to the patronage of the Chola kings, Nadi Granthas were translated and kept in the library at Thanjavur, which is near Vaitheeswaran Koil. When the British sold them, most of these came to be in Vaitheeswaran Koil, where the Pullirukkuvelur Temple is dedicated to the healing powers of Shiva. Unlike most other temples that are known by the presiding deity, Lord Murughan is a celebrated deity in Vaitheeswaran Koil. Murughan is the son of Shiva, therefore comes from the same lineage.

The Nadi Jyotisha flourishes under the protection of Shiva and Murughan. They ply their traditional trade interpreting the knowledge of the Nadis and also telling of the upayes or remedies for the past karma. One should go for a Nadi reading with devotion. If you are skeptical about them, it is likely to bring you face to face with the wrong interpreter.

The Granthas of Nadi Jyotisha

There are many texts of Nadi Jyotisha. Some give obscure and often secret techniques of Vedic Astrology. They give the key to precise interpretation. Among them include Bhrighu Nandi nadi, Bhrighu nadi, Chandra Kala Nadi, Sapta Rishi Nadi etc.

The Nadi readers are not astrologers but decoders of ancient scriptures. All they are doing is deciphering the data. His skills are limited to reading what is written. If the nadi leafs are incomplete or he has not found the right nadi or the time is not correct for you, then this information cannot be right. In fact the time has to be right for the individual to get the right nadi. This information is very precious and not everyone is ready to receive it. This is the reason so many get the wrong or incomplete information. The Rishis had only wanted those who were ready to receive information, to get it. In essence it is not the fault of the Nadi or the reader if you do not get the right information that chronicles the past, present and future.

Nadi reader tries to find the right Nadi by taking the thumb impression. According to the Nadi Granthas there are 1008 types of thumb impressions and these will narrow down the batch of Nadis where the story of your life is told. The impression of the right thumb for men and the left one for women is taken. The thumbprint has to match the particular batch of palm leafs for the reading to take place. Despite the claims of the nadi readers, it is impossible to find the right nadi for everyone.

The Kandams

These Jyotish Nadis Granthas divide the information on each individual life into sixteen chapters or kandams. Each chapter shows various aspects of life similar to the horoscope and its twelve houses. But there are added kandams, which are the real key of the Nadi reading.
The details covered in each Kandam generally are as follows:-

Kandam 1
- similar to the first house or ascendant. This will contain names
parents and wife/husband's, brothers, sisters, maternal uncles, children,
profession and general list of future predictions for all the 12 houses.

Kandam 2
 – similar to second house. Money ,family speech, eyes, education, vision

Kandam 3
 - similar to third house. Brothers and Sisters

Kandam 4
 - similar to fourth house. Mother ,House, Lands, Vehicles, Happiness

Kandam 5
 - similar to fifth house. Children, birth of children, reasons for not having children, creativity

Kandam 6
- similar to sixth house. Enemies, Diseases, Debts, cases in court.

Kandam 7
 - similar to seventh house. Marriage, Married life, problems nad blessing from marriage.

Kandam 8
 - similar to eighth house. Danger to life, longevity, period of death.

Kandam 9
 - similar to ninth house. Father, Wealth, luck, Temple, spirituality, devotion to God and Guru

Kandam 10
 - similar to tenth house. Business, Job, Profession, success

Kandam 11
 - similar to eleventh house. Profit, money, gain, second Marriage.

Kandam 12
 - similar to Twelfth house. Expenditure, loss, Foreign travel, moksha, self realisation, next birth.

After the twelve kandams that relate to the twelve astrology houses, there come special chapters that deal with additional aspects of life.

Kandam 13
 - Shanti Kandam – Shanti means peace. This chapters deals with pacifying the past life issues, past karma and last birth. The remedial measures that need to be done in order to calm the negative karma.  This is the most important Kandam. By rectifying the past life allows us to live in the present with happiness and peace. But this is also the Kandam people have the greatest problem with, as it is open to abuse by the unscrupulous Nadi practitioners. Do remember that not all Nadi Readers are corrupt and unscrupulous. They usually are very dharmic following their family tradition faithfully. As rectifying the past life is essential to move forward, it does not have to be done through expensive pujas and rituals if the individual cannot afford them. TheRishis could not have thought that only the wealthy who can afford these rituals, would the only ones who are relieved of their past karmas. This cannot be right. But the onus falls on the individual to make effort to clear his wrong karma once they gets aware of the issues they have collected in the past. It is important to appeasement the deities and work with the remedies. Without working with this essential aspect of the Nadi reading, there is unlikely to bring any lasting benefit. While the other kandams give knowledge of past life and what is going to happen now. We are not able to enjoy the future properly without sorting out the baggage of past karma.

Kandam 14
 – Diksha Kandam- Diksha means initiation. Here it refers to initiation into secret knowledge that allows the deeper world to develop through the use of the right mantras and the right protection. To get the right diksha, the individual has to be willing to clear the past karma revealed in the shanti kandam.

Kandam 15
 – Aushadha kandam. Aushadha means herbs, in this case medicine. This kandam deals with health and healing.

Kandam 16
 - Dasa Bhukti kandam. This Kandam 16- Dasa Bhukti kandam. This is Nadi version of the dasa and bhuktis for life.

In addition to these, there is also a special chapter for Prasna. The reader answers the questions from what is written by the Rishis. The nadi reader does not give these answers through traditional prashna astrology.

What one must understand it that Nadi is a very ancient science. And it should not be misused. Only those with a great desire to know their past and future should go, with the right attitude and devotion. Otherwise it is not possible for them to receive the good results. Also if you do go to the home of Nadi in Vaitheshwaran or to a good Nadi reader elsewhere and do not receive the right reading, then it is also part of your karma too. Don’t blame the reader. The time may not have been right for you as yet. You may have to try again at a later date.

Bhrigu to Vyas: 5,000 years of fortune-telling

pandit

The book supposedly outlines the destinies of millions of people. And in a testament to the human desire to know the future, Pandit Nathulal Vyas’ house that towers over the street is always full of visitors from India and abroad Karoli village, Rajasthan: In the dusty village of Karoli, north of the tourist town of Udaipur, five German visitors, two Jain monks and three small-town boys longing to go to the US flicked flies off their tea cups, their eyes fixed on the door leading to a small, yellow room.

They were waiting to meet a bald, 76-year-old man who reads fortunes from the Bhrigu Samhita, Hinduism’s most esoteric and famous book of destinies. According to legend, Bhrigu, the son of Brahma, whom believers worship as the creator, wrote the book on palm leaves about 5,000 years ago. Samhitameans a collection in Sanskrit.

The book supposedly outlines the destinies of millions of people. And in a testament to the human desire to know the future, Pandit Nathulal Vyas’ house that towers over the street is always full of visitors from India and abroad—some believing, some not so much. But they all leave behind something—dakshina(donation) or gifts—that Vyas, one of the most famous interpreters of the Bhrigu Samhita, uses to run his home.

“People come to this place only because of him. Otherwise, there is nothing to see here,” says Anil, who uses one name and runs a tea stall near the Vyas home.

Vyas, one of about 100 people in the country who interpret the Bhrigu Samhita, shot to national fame in 2007, when Pratibha Patil, an unlikely candidate, became President of the country—he had predicted her victory six months before her nomination was filed—but his reputation was built long before that.

One of the tourists, Ulrich Bremer from Berlin, heard about him in Germany. “It was the most incredible experience to sit there and listen to him read me things that I have never shared with anyone before,” he says.

Like Bremer, many say they were astounded by the readings. Sunita Nevatia, 68, a homemaker from Mumbai, who has been visiting Vyas for three decades, says she does not take any major decision without consulting the book. “I was a young woman in Udaipur when I heard about him. When some friends told me about him, I went along. I was curious. And then, after seeing my palm, he told me everything about my life—the names of parents, the fact that I had three brothers, five sisters. He said my father did not have a long life and as it turned out, I lost my father (when) he was just 54.” She says so many predictions based on his reading of the Bhrigu Samhita had come true—about her health, her family’s well-being, her children—that “I have unshakable faith in it”

The ‘Bhrigu Samhita’ is a treatise on Jyotish (Vedic astrology) compiled by ‘Maharishi Bhrigu’ during Vedic period. Although the available evidence suggests that this was compiled over a period of time by the various Sisya (Students in the lineage) of Maharishi Bhrigu. Symbolically, all creation begins from Venus which represents Semen, the seed of all creation. That is why the beginning or the seed of this vast knowledge was sown by Maharishi Bhrigu the father of Sukracharya (Venus). Jyotish is considered the Fifth Veda compiled during the Treta Yuga. (The first four are the Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva Veda which are Sruti ’s having been heard by the Maharishi’s from the mouth of Lord Brahma). Maharishi Bhrigu compiled about 5 lakh horoscopes and recorded the life details and events of the persons along with their ages. This formed the database for further research and study. This study culminated in the birth of the science (Shastra) of determining the quality of time (Hora) and is the Brihat Parasara Hora Shastra.

However, the compilation of the horoscopes seems to have continued for some time and these compilations are now found in the form of records in palm leaf manuscripts all over India. Often we find the principles of horary astrology, horoscopy and other branches of Vedic astrology being used therein to explain the events that have happened or are likely to come by.

The primary database is based on the Rasi Chart (12 signs) and the ten variables of Navagraha and Lagna (i.e. Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu & Lagna). The total permutations/ possible horoscope charts that can be drawn with this is about 45 Million[1]. It is believed that about 5 lakh horoscopes (half million only) are available in the Bhrigu Samhita spread all over. Let us examine some of the claims in the light of this knowledge: -

Claim1: That these predictions consisted of Past, Present and Future of any native who was born in this earth.
This is a rather tall claim as the number of horoscopes available is only half million against the total possibility of 45 million. The claim is not true and can be a marketing gimmick.

Claim 2. That there is only ONE original Bhrigu pundit stationed in Hoshiyarpur, India and that the rest are frauds.

Thus none of the pundits have access to the entire database of 5 lakh horoscopes and each claims to have the original Bhrigu Samhita whereas others are frauds. Whereas their claim of having a miniscule portion of the Bhrigu Samhita is true, their claim of others as frauds is incorrect as this Samhita was spread all over India and Hoshiyarpur is but one town.
We can also draw the following inferences from this: -

1. Infer#1: That the Bhrigu Samhita, as the name implies is a compilation (Samhita) of horoscopes that was started by Maharishi Bhrigu and was carried out by his Sisya (disciples/ students).

2. Infer#2: That the Bhrigu Samhita formed the database for further research and study that led to the creation of the Nadi literature (determination of Principles and rules forming the paradigm of Jyotish) and then the Shastra (Scientific body of knowledge).

3. Infer#3: That the Maharishi’s were well aware of advanced statistical methods for determination of rules and principles from databases. Perhaps these methods of Vedic Mathematics were far more advanced than what is available today.

The Cause of the Bhrigu Samhita

In the days of yore, although the Brahmin community was well versed in the four Veda and Purana, economic prosperity always deluded them. It was believed that their adoration of Goddess Saraswati alone and ignoring of Goddess Mahalaksmi was the cause of this poverty. To alleviate this suffering and poverty, Maharishi Bhrigu the strong and determined was advised to start worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. Thereafter Maharishi Bhrigu embarked on a long Tapasya[2] (penance) of appeasing the rich Goddess of good fortune and corn (Lakshmi). The resplendent and most beautiful Mahalaksmi appeared before Maharishi Bhrigu and guided him to start the occult science of Vedic Astrology and determine the methods to know the Past, Present and Future. She blessed that this knowledge if utilized by the Brahmins would surely remove their poverty and would also crown them with respect and admiration. There is no doubt that this penance of Maharishi Bhrigu has helped the greatest of Jyotish authors from time immemorial and savants like Kalidas (Uttar Kalamrita). Parasara, Varahmihira etc, must have benefited substantially from this seed of Jyotish.

History

Invading marauders and the Mughals led to the dispersion of the custodians of these Bhrigu manuscripts all over India. A large number of them was captured by them and taken away as booty. It is likely that this may have led to the beginning of the study of Astrology in the Arab world as some of the practices and methods like progression resemble the rudimentary teachings in the Manu Smriti. The single greatest loss occurred with the destruction of the Nalanda University.

Caution
The latest trend of preparing fake manuscripts in various parts of India is a sad development. Little do these people realise the kind of permanent damage they are doing to the authenticity of the Bhrigu’s works.

Footnotes

[1] 12 (Sun) X 12 (Moon) X 12 (Mars) X 3 (Merc) X 12 (Jup) X 5 (Venus) X 12 (Sat) X 12 (Rahu) X 1 (Ketu) X 12 (Lag) = 44,789,760 or say 45 Million. The values for Mercury is 3 as it can only be one sign behind, ahead or with the Sun. The same for Venus is 5 as it can be two signs behind, ahead or with the sun. Ketu is 1 as it is fixed opposite to Rahu.

[2] Since the Tapasya or penance was done by the determined Maharishi Bhrigu, Tapaswi Yoga is caused by the influence of Venus (also called Bhargava or the child of Bhrigu) on the Navamsa Lagna. This Venus should also be influenced by Saturn (deprivation/poverty) and Ketu (Spirituality/ emancipation and in this case emancipation from poverty).

Tour to India

NADI2

We are creating a group of people who are very interested in visiting one of the most famous centers of Nadi lectures. Bhrigu Nadi, Nathulal Pandit, one of the four descendants of the Bhrigu who are alive in India, lives in Korali-Rajansthan. Amongst the four Bhrigus he is the most recognized because has predicted important events in the live of famous personalities such as Pratibha Patil, who became Indian President. The Bhrigu foretold that she will become President of India, something even she could not believe at that moment.

Also Atal Bihari, ex-Indian Prime Minister goes for consults on regular bases. But not only from the political or artistic field people go see him. Personalities such as HH Indradyumna Swami and HH Prahaladananda Swami have gone to see him and they have reported to be very much surprised by the accuracy and purity of Nathulal Pandit Bhrigu Nadi.

The trip might result tedious, boring and dangerous if one had to travel alone, especially if one is not familiar with India and has no experience travelling inside India by land.

Therefore we are organizing these trips, in order to facilitate devotees and people in general who are destined to go and hear their charts read.

The trip is long indeed. It takes 51 hours back and fort crossing the dry Rajasthani desert. Nevertheless, you should not worry at all, because we guaranty that your trip will be pleasant in all sens

  • The adventure starts in Rome-Italy. (we could meet with you in Delhi if you are joining us from other countries). From Italy we go to Delhi and from Delhi to Karoli; which is a small village in the middle of the desert where the Bhrigu lives. It will take about 20 hours from Delhi till Karoli.
  • Just in the middle between Karoli and Delhi, there is the picturesque city of Jaipur better known as The Pink City. We will take rest here and would take one day to visit four of the most important historical places of  India.

We would take Dharshan of Govindaji, the Deity worshiped by Rupa Goswami Prahupada. Here  we will take charanamrita (special nectar) from the Deities and also we will clean our eyes with a special eye cleaner prepared by a Vedic ophthalmologist who descends from a very ancient family of Vedic Ophthalmologists doctors. The good news is that it will be free of cost.

We would visit the Amber Fort, which is a fort constructed in  the middle age. The architectural knowledge that Jaipur had at that time is far superior to that of Europe of the same time and the Amber Fort is a vivid example of that.

We also would go to the ancient Vedic Observatory/Planetary, which is a monument to the Astronomy and Astrology of the Vedic Age.

Of course we could not miss the famous Palace of the winds, which is a pink building with many hundreds of windows. It’s beauty is unique.

This makes our day in Jaipur. Shopping’s could be done after we visit the Bhrigu.

It takes 13 hours to get to Karoli from Jaipur. Must probably we would travel at night. The next day would be the day we all have been waiting for. The Bhrigu day. Each person would have a number and generally the reading, including questions, takes an hour. The Bhrigu says basic things of your life, like what you would do and what would you become. Therefore, one important thing is to ask questions. Do not be shy, ask any question you want, does not matter if at that moment it sound silly to you. So, 45 minutes to 1 hour would be required.

Nathu Lal Pandit has told us that he prefers small groups of 24 persons. This means that he would have to read for three days 8 hours a day. This can be a bit exhausting considering that he has his own schedule. Therefore the place is limited. Only 24 lucky persons can come with us this time. ONLY 24 PERSONS PER TRIP.

Eight persons per day, that means three days at Karoli. Again do not worry, we have planned your trip very nicely. While one group gets their readings, the other two groups would go to take dharshan from Sri Nathji at Nadwaraj, which is about 3 hours trip from the Bhrigu’s house.

These three days we will spend in a little town near Karoli (1 hour by car). This place is literally AN OASIS. You can swim on a beautiful big and clean natural lake and again free of cost. Also here you will receive massages, and yoga lessons to get rid of tension and stress. Believe it or not, all these is free of cost. It all includes in your packet tour.

The first part would take 5 days. 1 day from Delhi to Jaipur, 1 day in Jaipur and 3 days in Karoli with the Bhrigu.

In the second part we go back to Jaipur from Karoli, we would depart at night to gain time. It will be a 13 hours trip by bus. In Jaipur we would stay the 6 day. This day will be destined for shopping’s and relax. You could by precious and semi-precious stones and other products of the region. Please, DO NOT ADVENTURE YOURSELF IN SHOPPINGS AT RANDOM. There is a BIG RISK OF GETTING CHEATED EASILY. We will recommend your shops which are of our trust and in  that way you will get good quality for a good price. You will get what you paid for.

On the day 7 we depart early in the morning from Jaipur and we will visit the Taj Mahal and the day 8 we go back to Delhi. The schedule could change according to your disponibility.

Departing dates are programmed for the end of July-August.

Remember, only 24 persons can come with us on this trip. So book your place as soon as possible…If you are destined to go, you will go…
